Mold testing can answer certain questions, but it is not automatically required for every visible mold condition. The decision should start with what you need the test to establish.
Sampling may be considered when the source of a suspected problem is unclear, documentation is needed for a particular project, or another qualified party recommends it for a defined reason.
If mold is plainly visible and a moisture source is known, testing may add less value than defining the affected materials and correcting the moisture problem.
A dark or black appearance does not identify a mold species. Visual color alone is not a substitute for a qualified assessment or, when appropriate, laboratory analysis.
